If you’re a Ron Paul enthusiast, like me, you’ve listened to the former gold dealer Paul teach you that gold IS money. And so is silver. Here’s an odd fact I became aware of today, Feb. 15, 2023. Remember when gold mining was synonymous with South Africa? Back in 1970 South Africa produced a huge percentage of the world’s gold, 1,000 tons, which was 90% of the world total. What happened after that? Remember the Krugerrand? Today South Africa produces only 90 tons. The new big 5 today are China (380 tons), Australia (320 tons), Russia (300 tons). United States (190 tons) and Canada (170 tons). And who produces the most silver? Mexico (6,120 tons), Peru (4,160 tons), China (3,570 tons), and Russia (2,100 tons). The United States is 10th with 930 tons.
