Ive got some tips because I live off the grid.
There are a lot of things you can do besides burning wood chips. I think the gasifier generator is it good idea to study but I don’t think I drive around in a truck with it. Probably good to run a generator. I hate to admit it but YouTube is a gold mine of a resources on alternative energy and ideas. One guy is taking bullshit in a 55 gallon drum and getting gas out of it to run a propane stove.
There are solar stills that make alcohol. You just have to retool the petroleum engines or rebuild another engine to accept the alcohol. Indy 500 cars run on alcohol because it’s safer than petroleum when they crash.
Then you have hydrogen which can be separated by solar cells. You almost want it on demand hydrogen instead of storing it for obvious reasons. They are starting to perfect the technology now. China even sells a stove you can plug in the wall and it turns the water into hydrogen.
If Elon Musk was smart he would sell a carport with solar cells on top to charge the car especially if you live in the southern states with heat and no snow. Charging should be free but nobody’s figured this out. As an amateur on solar energy there’s a reason why New Jersey put them up all around fort Lee because they add energy to the line. They’re very good they last a long time.
“Dead car batteries” can be used to power battery small AM radios. They won’t fry the radio because the low voltage. You know those kids electric cars with the batteries in the motors in it? The batteries are usually still good. The motors you can build micro windmills out of.
I solar trickle charge those batteries with small solar cells to power AM radios.
I save the motors for a future purpose.
I have a couple 80 watt solar cells and one large truck battery that keeps my phone charged and I can turn a light on at night. I have another battery that hovers around 11.50 volts which is still usable though it won’t start a truck.
The problem when the grid goes down is the food in your refrigerator and freezer THE MOST IMPORTANT ASSET IN YOUR HOUSE. You specifically want to set up a battery Bank to run just a freezer. There might be some residual to charge a phone. I would set up my house that each appliance had its own battery Bank instead of drawing off one Central source. Here we are we use AC power lines yet we have to step down to DC. It creates all this noise with inverters. So I want to bypass the inverter and build a DC step down circuit to power radios because with the inverter on it completely causes interference this is one of the big downsides of solar is the inverter noise on radios. I think decentralizing from AC electricity down to DC is the way to go. For example there might be a way of taking the transformer out and putting in DC stages and running them off of deep cycle batteries. It’s the power lines that cause the hum on these guitars. We also need to move towards DC refrigeration.
You would need a separate battery bank for air conditioning.
Double insulate your house. Make your house smaller.
Build a Yuwipi underground green house.
Build stone fireplaces that hold the heat with stone heat sinks.
Get a greenhouse and build a small shelter inside the greenhouse. That way when it’s snowing outside you can still Garden around your shelter inside the greenhouse.
With the metal lid off of Steel can, I can poke a hole in it, put a cotton wick through it sit it in a receptacle of vegetable oil and I have an instant candle. Jute works better than cotton string because it stands up straight and holds the flame better. If you only have cotton string, I braid three of them together if it’s not thick enough. That is one of my minor successes that’s proven itself over years. I basically use my oil candle a little bit every day as I’m off the grid except for my battery and solar cells. I cook offof wood everyday. I run the LED lights. I’ve got no problem with them other than they’re really bright.
You can protect your phones all you want from EMP, but if there is an EMP attack and the grid goes down you’re not using your phone because the whole thing is shot. But better safe than sorry put it inside ammo box even the used spent phones as they will still have wifi access.
Americans waste so much time and energy wasting time and energy. We are tooled to be inefficient and excessive.
