I think that the main reason that the Greenland shark can apparently live more than 400 years is simply that it has an extremely slow metabolism. It is an exothermic animal that lives in very cold waters.

The females supposedly cannot become pregnant until they are about 150 years old, and once they are impregnated they remain pregnant for several years.
