Co-host: Paul Fromm | Harking back to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” in our December 27, 2017 Trump Phenomenon program we talk about two characters in Fitzgerald’s 1927 novel: Madison Grant (1865-1937) and Lothrop Stoddard (1883-1950). Grant and Stoddard are both 7th cousins to Kelso. Madison Grant was immensely popular among the New York City elite in 1927. He had written both the 1920 Quota Act (signed by Kelso’s 6th cousin Warren G. Harding, 1865-1923) and the 1924 Immigration Act (signed by Kelso’s 11th cousin Calvin Coolidge, 1872-1933). When Donald Trump talks about Making America Great Again he, and many of his supporters, are personally remembering a time when what was politically correct was utterly opposite to what we endure today under that heading.
